Saturday Smorgasbord

Ahhh....Saturday.....wonderful Saturday. The day I always wake up to with the anticipation that anything can happen.

We finally decided what to do with our Halloween pumpkin.

Francesca worked diligently on decorating the floor.

Did anyone ever notice that it takes longer to clean up projects than it actually takes for the kids to do them?
We originally started to paint outside, but then a guy with an edger came too close to our house and the kids freaked out.

We played with dry rice as a sensory experience. I will be cleaning rice off the floor for the next several years.

This is the only picture I got before some people, who will not be named, got over zealous and starting throwing rice. That was the end of the sensory experience.

Victoria finally learned how to eat dry cereal and then had a blast trying to feed me.

Grandpa came to visit! Don't he and Elliot look a lot alike!

Me-Ma brought everyone cool pink fire hats from the fire station she works at.

Blackmail photo.

I went to the store today with my favorite shopping consultant. Nope, not my mom, not my friends, my son. He gives excellent advice on clothes, though I didn't buy anything. I do not like to shop for myself!

I love feet pajamas!!!! Francesca is going to be bigger than Catherine soon.

I'm not sure anyone was listening, but I loved this book!

Hope everyone had a happy Saturday!

  1. A suggestion for the rice sensory experience -- put down a sheet first, then sit on it with your bins of rice while you play. That way when it's done you just gather together the corners of the sheet and get (most of) the rice picked up (to dump outside or in the trash or whatever).

And there's an extra little one in your last photo, right? I was sure you only had 5 girls... (I seriously counted that picture and the others multiple times, just to make sure I wasn't imagining things (it is really late, after all).)

  2. Very brave with the rice :) Have you ever made flubber or gack? Those are great fun! Also, if you go to a Starbucks or any major coffee place and ask for their coffee grounds they will be more than happy to save them and let you have them. If you keep it uncovered then it will last for a week or two, you can put it in a little sandbox or sensory tub. It smells amazing, and is a LOT cleaner than dirt!!

  3. My son loves the rice box they have in his Sunday school class but I came up with something for home that is a little less messy. I filled a wrapping paper storage box with dried pinto beans and a small amount of other beans (big white ones, name?) to mimic rocks. He loves it just as much as rice and it's less messy because the beans are bigger. He often just lays down in the box and tries to bury himself. And as the first commenter pointed out we put a sheet down first - a KING size one!

  4. I was so confused because I thought you said you played with dry ice as a sensory experience, and I was thinking, ouch would burn you. :)

Sounds like you had a really fun day!
