We finally got some rain tonight. Unfortunately, my rotten, I mean misguided, children also accidentally spilled milk on my little netbook. I am not sure how it happened, but besides the netbook, Anastasia and Elliot were also covered in limp Frosted Flakes.
So, now my keyboard won't work! The z is now a 5. The b doesn't work at all. What am I going to do????!!! I tried putting the hairdryer on it, but it still won't work. I love my netbook! I don't have to worry about the hassles of Christmas shopping this year since I know what the kids are getting for their Christmas present - a new netbook for me!
Shortly after this occurred, our power went out. Everyone was whining that there was nothing to do, but I solved that problem. I put them ALL to bed early!
Sorry no pictures, they are all on the netbook!!!
Oh Catherine! I am SO SORRY! Try sticking it in kitty litter over night...I've heard that works.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't, at least your making it easy for Santa this year!

Dry rice is another alternative to kitty litter. Take out the battery and take apart any parts that come off easily, lay it open and bury it part way down in a bowl/box of rice. Leave it to sit in a sunny/warm place for a few days and then try it again.
ReplyDeleteSorry!!!! I love my netbook too. Mine needs to stay charging now and I have to rig the cord so the charger actually works.Too much blogging plus things like children tossing it off the bed, table, etc... Anyway,I got mine from Target over a year ago and it was a really great sale.So if you need one be sure to check their sales.
ReplyDeleteOh No!!! That happened to us a few years ago, but it was orange juice..... we lost a LOT....
ReplyDeleteSo now, there is this law of no liquid near the computer..... it has lasted a few years....but you never know.
Ah those little reminders the Lord gives that all we have comes from Him. I know them all too well. The more I try to say: Mine, mine, mine; the more He reminds me that nothing I have is mine. It all comes from Him.
ReplyDeleteI recently replaced my new camera after baby dropped it in the trash can & we figured it out days too late. I had to get over it and remind myself that I can replace the camera; can't replace my sweet baby. :)
I spilled white wine on the macbook that I am currently using, about 2 months after I'd spent $2,000 to purchase it. That type of damage isn't covered by Apple Care and I nearly expired when I thought I'd ruined my investment!
ReplyDeleteYou want to disconnect any power source and remove the battery ASAP. (I also removed the hard drive) Then you need to get the fluid out. Dry rice is a good choice. Put it in a box or bag or of it and it will pull out the moisture. if you do dry with a hair dryer, keep it on low and you'll probably need to do it a few times. Keeping it upside down to let the liquid go the way it came in is good too.
It took about 10 days before I even ATTEMPTED to connect power to it again and then another week or so before it stopped being weird. The only ill effect was the keys sounding a little crunchy for a little while, and the backlit keyboard became quite dim. Otherwise, I've had no problems with it since and this was 2 years ago.
Eek good luck!
I'd leave it alone for a while and not try testing it out for at least a week or so. but you never know. I had a friend spill a piping hot plate of spaghetti on his macbook and it blacked out but then recovered about a week later too!
The lesson I learned was that the convenience of a laptop does not mean it should be used whilst eating dinner especially while in bed on a bouncy mattress....lol.
Oh i forgot to mention, I also had to order a new battery, for some reason for a while after, the thing only worked with the power cord plugged in.
ReplyDeleteNow both batteries work in it, but for a while the original battery would not work.
Something similar happened to me. My husband took the battery out and turned the computer over so that it was making an upside down V and let it dry out for three days. It worked!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer! AT least Christmas will be easy this year.
ReplyDeleteIf all else fails, but the rest of the netbook still works, maybe try plugging in a cheap external keyboard to it. It might at least let you recover all your pictures and anything else important.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck
:'( So sorry that happened! My big ol' CRT monitor just quit (for my old old desktop) and I'm trying to locate another one. Well, trying to find a time to go pick up the one I found on craigslist! And fighting the kids for time on the laptop...
ReplyDeleteEven if there aren't updates, I get a smile just checking your blog because of the great pictures. You gotta get that netbook fixed! I love Isabella's grin in the header photo on your blog. Elliot's expression looks like he's thinking, "Come on, mom ...." and Anastasia juggling a wailing Francesca (I still can't figure out how she manages not to drop her), .... Victoria's birthday chocolate cake picture, and Catherine and the dog food bag ... your pictures truly round out the hilarious stories in the best way!!!! I still say yours must be a wonderful home to live in. Between your children being such characters and you being so easy-going (hiding from them :) ..... ) it's like watching a fun movie, keeping up with how you are doing.
