Yesterday was little Catherine's 4th birthday!
The real surprise was not that I remembered that we had a birthday shirt stashed somewhere, but that I actually managed to find the shirt!
Catherine only asked for one thing - salad.
Anastasia got her some lip gloss! Happy, happy day! Did you know Chapstick is really hard to scrap off a couch?
Isabella gave her a really cool squishy ball and four pennies and rocks! Catherine carried them around all day!
She also wore these Santa socks all day too. She is such a fashionista.
She really enjoyed licking the bowl, maybe a little too much.

Her presents were elaborately wrapped in a towel and a grocery bag. Who needs real wrapping paper anyway?
I think she is a little excited!
Somehow the cake looked way, way better in my mind. I had big plans. I didn't make a homemade cake since I wanted it to be edible. Since Catherine wanted a fire engine cake, I planned on making a little house next to the fire truck that was on fire. I thought I would mix red and yellow icing and make fire icing! I was going to have Oreo cookies crumbled for a road. But, by the time I finally managed to throw a frozen meal in the microwave for dinner and put the salad in a bowl, I was exhausted. It was already 7 pm. My mom and Carol were begging me to just eat the cake plain, but no, I pressed on, despite the fact that the birthday girl was off playing with her pennies somewhere.
I was trying to make windshield wippers, but instead it looked like I made the cake for someone named "AL".
The licorice was supposed to be the hose, but it looked more like a tail. I have never heard Carol laugh so hard.
It's kind of a cool cake, right? RIGHT???? Everyone's laughter made me feel the tiniest bit insecure!
Happy Birthday sweet Catherine!
Thanks for the great belly laugh. I am laughing with you, not at you. Really. Best blog post I've read in a long while.

ReplyDeleteAmazing it must be a Georgian thing. My little one prefers salad to most sweets. She once traded her ice cream for a salad?

ReplyDeleteYou've got a bunch of cutie pies!!! Love the cake. I gave up on baking a few years ago and let the kids take over! My 9 yr. old son is head baker and he's really good! Catherine reminds me of my 5 yr. old. Her most favorite things are chapstick and change.
