Test Failed

You know how when you dream about something that you are worried about, the real situation usually turns out absolutely fine. Well........

Victoria's 24 hour ambulatory EEG did not exactly go as expected. You know, 24 hours is a really long time. There's just gotta be a better way of keeping 22 wires hooked to a two year old. All day long, I tried to keep Victoria still and quiet. We stayed in the cool air conditioning. We went to eat at Waffle House because everyone is happy at Waffle House, right? (surprisingly, no one seemed to notice her little robotic head).

Victoria immediately figured out how to unzip the secret compartment and then push the button that she was not supposed to push! Only I was directed to push the button when I saw her eyes jerking left and right. I was supposed to record any episodes on a little chart, but all I recorded was: sorry, Victoria pushed the button again.

Did the neurologist really think I had time to stare into her eyes all day long? No, I was busy trying to keep her little fingers away from the darn button! I decided to keep her up from her nap just to make sure her fingers didn't do any more exploring.

In the afternoon, she decided she was done and started tampering with the wires. Then turban fell off (they should have used duct tape)! This was not supposed to have happened! Panic City!!! Isabella quickly produced her silk sleeping cap and we thought all was well. They told me those connectors are stuck with a cement kind of stuff and there was no way those puppies were coming off.

A few hours later, I took off the pink cap and made a distressing discovery. Yep, every single one of those 22 little wires had jumped ship. They were all off her head! They weren't even stuck to her hair!

So, I had to do the walk of shame and turn everything back in to the doctor with only 8 hours of data recorded. The great news is we get to re-do the test again! Yipee! Next time, I plan on dreaming about scoops of ice cream in hot fudge sauce.

  3. Oh, you guys make my day! I'm not sure how this could succeed, unless everyone involved was sedated...

  4. Our youngest had the exact same test, but he was older than her. I don't know how she got those leads off they are cemented to the scalp and have to be removed with a solvent! She's so smart!Sorry you have to do it again!

  5. My guy had a different test completely...a sleep study for which he only slept 3 hours. BUT, the same amount of wires were attached 22 wires to his head. Luckily once they were on my guy ignored them and sat in bed watching t.v. and eating snacks all night BUT those wires were STUCK. They must have done them 'wrong or something'. Seriously, they used a special substance to get them off and 2 wouldn't come off so they left in and said they'd come off in next shower...there was glue and glue marks and those two end plastic probes in his hair for over 2 weeks. Funny about pushing the button!

  6. I'm sorry ... we've been there. I've taken my son for 4 or 5 and we have yet to get a completely clean test. That turban does not stay on if you have hair and move around, despite the tech's assurance. I wrapped a wide ace bandage around it, then used coflex to secure it.

  7. One would think that in the 21st century there would be a better technique for doing this test with young children. Wishing you success with the next attempt and so sorry it has to be done again.
