The Big Appointment

We had a great SDA appointment. We were both so nervous, but it wasn't anything like we expected. It was in a tiny office in the back of a building. The woman had Nastya and Moira's files out already. She asked us how many kids we had and how long we had been married. Then, I saw a picture of baby Moira as an infant. I almost burst into tears. I wanted to just hug the pictures, but we didn't get to keep it. She also asked us why we wanted to adopt children with special needs, but I don't think we really even answered because I was so intent on the pictures. There were two pictures of Nastya, one as an infant and one as a toddler. I could see her tiny toes in the toddler picture. I just melted. The whole appointment took only about 10 minutes.

We heard that it is good luck to touch the bug on this statue, so of course, I had to do it!

Teeny tiny elevator

Then, we had the rest of the day to explore. We found out that their exchange rate is $1 US dollar to their $8. Prices were like $200 for a nesting doll, but that is really only about $25.

Travis made a friend.

McDonald's has some big competition here - a place called "McFoxy"!

There aren't many crosswalks signals here. Pedestrians just walk out right in front of speeding cars and the cars stop for them. Cars also drive and park on the sidewalk.

We found our way to the grocery store. No one spoke Engish and nothing was written in English, so it was quite an adventure. I bought something I thought was milk, but when I tasted it, well, I'm not sure what it really was, but it was really sour.

I also thought I was buying a chocolate crossiant, but it turned out to have black olives in it. Yuck! Any apple cost $4.39, but then I remembered that was really only 54 cents. They weigh and price the fruit before you take it up to the cashier.
I have really embarrassed Travis by taking pictures of everything and everyone, but people smile at me, so I think they don't mind!

Cute kitten on a dog. Dogs just run free everywhere, but they aren't tame.

  6. Oh, very fun to see.

There are two types of milk...one ready to drink, one that needs to be cooked. Hmmm...maybe you got that one. I think it might have something on it to help you figure it out. ???

Take care...is tomorrow the day...no, pick up referral tomorrow and then the next day??

  7. Look for the milk (moloko) in a bottle that has a cat on it (light blue decal) and lists a percentage (like 2.6%) at the bottom. That's the milk you want. Be sure to check the expiration date, remembering that they do their dates Day/Month/Year.

As for the baby pictures, if you print out recent ones (like after you meet the girls) you or your facilitator should be able to exchange them for the baby pictures at the SDA.

  8. YAY!! I'm so excited for you!!! Your apartment is way nicer than ours was!!! :)

We brought photos to exchange, but our facilitator never did it for us even though we told her we wanted them. We were bummed, so I hope you gets yours!

  9. I was thinking it was kefir, too .. it's actually going to be quite healthy for you, if you can try to get past the fact that it's sour like a tart yogurt. I make it at home .. I'm the only one who has learned to love it.
